The rupee on Tuesday settled 4 paise down at 64.38 against the US dollar. The RBI, meanwhile, fixed the reference rate for the dollar at 64.3580 and the euro at 75.0607.
Meanwhile, domestic equity markets opened in green following mixed global cues. The BSE Sensex opened 27.72 points, or 0.09 per cent, up at 32,255.99, while NSE Nifty index opened 19.10 points, or 0.19 per cent, up at 9,983.65.
Foreign portfolio investors stood net sellers in domestic equity markets on Tuesday and sold shares worth Rs 270.33 crore with gross purchases and gross sales of Rs 4806.28 crore and Rs 5076.61 crore, respectively.
Government bonds fell for the first time in three sessions on Tuesday, as investors booked profit from record high prices day before, awaiting the Fed policy meeting outcome.
The GoI benchmark 6.79% 2027 bond yield rose to 6.43 per cent from 6.41 per cent in the previous session.
